At IT Optimiser, we work to match qualified SAP specialists with companies globally. With our office based out of Denmark, we have a solid insight into where Danish freelancers are located. Below, we provide an overview of the geographic distribution of SAP freelancers in Denmark, divided into the three regions of Jutland, Funen, and Zealand.
Regional shares
According to our latest data, the distribution is as follows:
The figures give us an indication of where the Danish SAP freelance market is primarily concentrated – and point to some interesting geographic patterns.
What can we derive from the figures?
Zealand (65%)
The significant predominance of SAP freelance specialists on Zealand can be explained partly by the proximity to the capital area, partly to a large share of the Danish companies that generate substantial demand for SAP competencies.
In recent years, especially after Corona, there has been a development towards a more accepted split between onsite and remote work. Despite this, there is still a desire for onsite presence, which makes Zealand – and especially the capital area – a natural hub.
Jutland (31%)
Jutland accounts for approximately one third of the Danish SAP freelance capacity. This bears witness to a solid and robust competence foundation outside the capital area. The consultants on the mainland are widespread, which is likely reflected in a similar spread of large SAP customers / projects across Jutland.
Funen (4%)
We acknowledge that Funen is more than just a motorway (if you know, you know 😊). The region accounts for a very small share of the country’s SAP freelance specialists. On one hand, this can naturally be attributed to the fact that a relatively small share of the Danish SAP customers are located on Funen.
On the other hand, one could argue that Funen is Denmark’s “sweet spot” with good access to both the capital area and several of the larger SAP customers in Jutland. Conversely, one could of course also argue that Funen is a choice between two evils i.e. regardless of where the next project is geographically located, there will be relatively long travel time. A matter of personal preference and dependent on how one views travel time.
Denmark has a strong IT sector, with a particular focus on larger cities like Aarhus and Copenhagen. In Aarhus, you will find many companies seeking SAP consultants to help optimize their business processes. Here, you can work closely with leading organizations in both the public and private sectors.
In Copenhagen, there is also a high demand for SAP specialists. The city is a hub for many international companies that require SAP expertise to manage complex, global operations. Whether you are looking for permanent employment or freelance projects, there are many exciting opportunities within SAP in Copenhagen.
As an SAP consultant or freelancer in Denmark, you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of companies—from small and medium-sized enterprises to large international corporations. Many of these companies are leaders in their respective industries, including finance, manufacturing, retail, energy, and the public sector.
In the finance sector, you will work with complex SAP solutions that support everything from accounting and financial reporting to risk management. In manufacturing and logistics, you can help companies optimize their supply chain management, inventory control, and production efficiency using SAP systems. Retail companies use SAP to manage sales data, customer loyalty programs, and inventory, while the energy and utilities sector relies on SAP for resource management and project management.
Public institutions in Denmark also make extensive use of SAP for the administration of finance, personnel, and resource management. Working for these organizations gives you the chance to contribute to the development of systems that have a direct impact on citizens’ daily lives.
When searching for SAP jobs in Denmark, you will often face the choice between permanent employment and freelance work, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
The main advantage of permanent employment is stability. You receive a fixed monthly salary, access to company benefits like pension, health insurance, and paid vacation, and the opportunity to develop within a single organization. Additionally, you build closer relationships with colleagues and gain deeper insight into the company’s processes and culture. The downside may be that you work within a more rigid structure, with less flexibility in terms of working hours and methods.
As a freelancer, you enjoy a high degree of flexibility and freedom. You can choose your projects, set your own working hours, and often achieve higher earnings due to short-term, but well-paid contracts. Freelance work also allows you to work with different companies and industries, which can be a great way to expand your skills and network. However, the downside is the uncertainty regarding stable income, the lack of company benefits, and the risk of periods without projects. Additionally, you need to be good at marketing yourself and handling administrative tasks like accounting and contracts
